Important Photo Tips:

1. Interesting subject. Try to compose shot to feature your subject.

2. Good color, not washed out... you may have to boost saturation in Photoshop a little.

3. Good light levels. Again, check in Photoshop, should be some pure white and some pure black.

4. Broad usage appeal. Photos which you can imagine being used by someone in a design.

5. Copyright violations. The photo MUST be taken by you personally, and recognizable people's faces need a Model Release

6. Be CREATIVE! Have fun - some of the best stuff comes from those creative impulses you get

For Photographers and Artists

Submit your photos and artwork to BigStockPhoto.com for others to purchase and download, and we split a portion of the revenues with you, the image creator.

We now accept JPG, EPS, AI, PSD, PDF and PNG files!

Make from 50 cents to $3.00 per image download - or much more on Special License downloads
Whenever a person downloads one of your photos under our normal Image Usage Agreement, your account balance increases by 50 cents per credit spent. This equates to 50 cents for smallest downloads or $3.00 each for the largest file downloads. When your account balance reaches $50 you can request Paypal, Moneybookers, or check withdrawal to 'cash out' your account.

Make up to $60 per download with Special Licensing sales
If you have joined any of our Special License deals and buyers are purchasing your photos that way, you will earn anywhere from $2.50 to $60 PER download. More on Special Licenses here >>

File Formats Accepted - Images, Art, Vector and Bitmap:
JPG, EPS, AI, PSD, PNG and PDF.

When submitting native file formats like EPS, AI, PSD, PNG and PDF please be sure to leave all layers, selections, masks and vector paths intact so the downloader can easily edit the file.

Conceptual images are very popular and very marketable.
Images that can be used for a wide variety of uses sell well. Conceptual images that show ideas like happiness, fear, safety, business success, real estate, growth, etc. are great because almost any industry can use them if they are general concepts. If you review our "Most Popular Images" (see link at left) you will notice that conceptual images are the best sellers overall.

Also very popular:
Business images, images showing diversity, age, seniors, white, black, asian, hispanic, indian, etc., food shots, sports, travel, vacations, wedding images, sexy, conceptual, family images, spa, massage, workouts, office, corporate.

Rules for Uploading
It is critically important to read and understand the Terms and Conditions for Uploading pages. They describe the laws surrounding what can and can't be uploaded due to copyright laws.

All uploaded images MUST be taken or created by you personally in order to ensure that you have legal ownership rights of the image, and they must not contain identifiable trademarks within the photo such as logos or storenames. Artwork must be 100% created by you. You cannot use art from other sources to incorporate into your artwork.

Model Released Images vs. Editorial Use Images
BigStockPhoto will accept standard model released images, and also editorial use only non-released images. Generally, uploading images with model releases is preferred. But if you understand the market and rules for editorial use images, we can accept those too. Read here for more on editorial use images.

Since editorial use images have a limited market (they cannot be used for commercial or advertising related purposes, only social or news commentary basically), it's best to supply model releases whenever possible. For this, recognizable PERSONS within the photo must have signed model releases which you upload to BigStockPhoto along with your photo.

Photos inside recognizable commercial buildings or businesses should have signed property releases (when possible) which you upload to BigStockPhoto along with your photo.

(Read more here about when you need model or property releases)

Create and save a Clipping Path with your photo if you can - it creates more value to the downloader and boosts your chances of selling the image. Read more about Clipping Paths here.

Making Money with BigStockPhoto
The more photos you upload the higher chance of making more money with BigStockPhoto. The subject matter and quality of the photos also plays a key role. We have a list of "Photos We Need" here and supplying photos from this list may increase your likelihood of making $$ as well. Lastly, the creativity and judgement used in your photographs will be a big factor in how often your photos are downloaded - the more creative and attractive and striking your work is the more downloaded it will probably be.

Your Photo Copyright Stays With You
By uploading your photos here, you do not lose or sign over your rights to your photo's copyright. The copyright stays with you. By uploading your work here you do give BigStockPhoto the right to sell the use of your photo, and to receive a commission for each download of your photo.

Receive commissions whenever your total reaches $50 or more
You can request a commission payout whenever your earned commission totals $50 or more - and you can receive the commission via Paypal, Moneybookers, or check.

Images must be online for 90 days minimum
When you submit your images to the BigStockPhoto image approval process, you are agreeing to let us have a chance to sell them for you and earn commissions for you for at least 90 days. This rule is necessary to discourage users from uploading all their images then changing their minds after having us go through the time and cost intensive approval and photo editing process.
