Special Licensing at BigStockPhoto

BigStockPhoto is now offering Special Licensing options for buyers with special needs that fall
outside of the scope of our regular Photo Usage Agreement.
Our standard royalty-free agreement allows a broad variety of uses where the image is a supporting part of your advertisement, website, direct mail, brochure, book, magazine article, art project, etc... but if you need the image to be a core, main, definitive part of your product, (such as reprinting the images as posters or cards, on tshirts, or in screensavers, calendars or coffee table books, etc.) then you will probably need a Special License.

Special Licensing - how it works:
- Buyers select a Special License that meets their specific needs from the listing below
- Buyer checks to make sure that the desired images are available under the desired license... remember: each image is not necessarily available under each license. The "View Special Licenses" link on every Photo Detail page will tell you which licenses are available for that image.
- Buyer contacts BigStockPhoto licensing department to set up the special license - buyer signs and faxes back licensing agreement
- Account is set up and activated
- Buyer can then search and download from the BigStockPhoto library photos available under their special license
Some ground-rules of Special Licensing:
- There are a number of Special Licenses (review them here), each with different terms and usages - buyers should select the license the most closely meets their needs. If you have any questions about your use please direct them to BigStockPhoto licensing department using the form below.
- BigStockPhoto does not enter into any Special License deals that we believe will adversely affect our photographers or their models. This is subjective, but we can only work with photo buyers with fair and legitimate needs.
- BigStockPhoto will review photo buyers usage to be sure that photo buyers are in compliance with the agreement terms.
- Special licensing accounts require a $100 photo credit purchase that is FULLY APPLIED toward your photo purchases.

What rules apply to Special Licensing?
Except where otherwise specified within the Special Licensing Terms, our standard Photo Usage Agreement also applies to Special Licensing image purchases.
Are all photos available under the license I need?
No - the photographers decide which licenses they wish to participate
in, but MOST images are available under most licenses... so there is a
huge selection with any license - but you will want to check to make sure
the image YOU need is available. The Photo Details page for each image
(see this
example of a Photo Details page)has a link in the right side column
labeled "View Special Licenses" that will tell you which licenses are available
for every photo.

Special Licensing FAQ
What can I do with photos purchased under a Special License?
You can use the photos for purposes not allowed within the standard BigStockPhoto Photo Usage Agreement.
Each license is different so you need to choose the license(s) that fulfill your intended photo usage needs.
Do I own the copyrights to the photo I buy under a Special License?
No - the photographer ALWAYS retains the resale and copyrights to the images. We do not offer resale licenses, so you may not resell the digital image file under any circumstances.
Are ALL your photos available under the license I need?

How can I get started?
Simply review our available Special Licenses here and select the one that meets your needs. Then submit your request for a Special License account using the form on this page. BigStockPhoto licensing personel with contact you shortly thereafter.
How much will each photo cost me under a Special License?
This is determined based on your usage needs. Some licenses for "one-off" individual uses can run as low as $9 each but other more broad use licenses that are unlimited can run over $100 per image. The price per image is entirely based on your usage needs. Average pricing runs about $25 per image.
Each photo will cost you the same amount under your license. Again, this amount is determined by BigStockPhoto licensing personel based on your usage needs. You will be able to agree to the amount for your license - there are no hidden fees or surprises.
How much will buyer be charging for his product with my photo?
We can't track this information due to complexities of the many buyers, licenses, their products and market conditions.
Can I resell photos purchased under a special license?
No - not as digital photos. You can not resell the images online as photos under any circumstances. They are intended to become part of your product, such as a poster or a t-shirt etc. but you cannot resell the digital image itself.
Can I quit from Special Licensing ?
Sure. Just go contact BigStockPhoto at any time to close or deactivate your account. Remember that of your initial deposit, $75 is non-refundable in the event that you have not yet used your initial deposit for photo purchases.
Once I buy a photo on a special license can others buy it too?
Yes. Normally the photo can be purchased by other parties for their own uses, unless you have arranged a complete buyout license agreement with BigStockPhoto.
